This project was designed to monitor the settlement around a 14’diameter,  800' long corrugated metal tunnel and the settlement effects on the tunnel shell and a suspended conveyor system running the length of the tunnel.  SKW was asked to monitor movement in both the conveyor and the tunnel walls over a one month period to determine if the tunnel was continuing to deform or if the majority of settlement occurred shortly after construction.  LiDAR scanning was utilized to minimize time spent on-site, eliminate any need to halt production, and to maximize the number of monitor points within the tunnel.  Each monitor session took approximately 8 hours to accomplish and was performed with the conveyor system either in operation or undergoing maintenance.  No disruptions of normal operations were required, and it was determined that the rate of settlement had slowed to an acceptable level and structural repairs were unnecessary at this time.
