Wastewater Lagoon Upgrades for Advanced Treatment
Until recently, 3-cell flow through lagoons has been considered the ideal solution for small communities in need of a low-cost and effective method of wastewater treatment with minimal operational complexity. Recent regulatory changes are posing numerous challenges to the limits of treatment in these systems. Many lagoons will either have to be upgraded, converted or replaced. Navigating the multitude of options on the marked today can be challenging and confusing. This presentation takes a look at the options presented to one Missouri community, with special consideration given to the operational complexity, permitting requirements and expected user charges.
This updated presentation was given on May 14, 2009 at the Missouri Water Environment Association Small Flows Technical Conference. It was presented by Elke Boyd, P.E.
