Reducing I/I in Wastewater Collection Systems
This presentation describes the process for locating and eliminated sources of I/I. A description of methods used to locate sources of I/I is given while explaining why each one is used and the benefits of using each technique. This is then followed with a description of construction techniques for eliminated or reducing the sources of I/I. And then final a brief review of KDHE requirements for reporting bypasses and a description of what might be included in a schedule of compliance in a KDHE issued permit.
This presentation was given by Rex Heape, P.E. at the Kansas Rural Water Association conference on March 30, 2011.
Wastewater Disinfection –Talking through the options
Small communities have been faced with making a decision as to how best handle the issue of wastewater disinfection. This presentation takes a look at the three basic methods for handling the disinfection issue as well as some of the pros and cons of each of those issues.
This presentation was given by Gary Cunningham at the NE Section Meeting of the MWWC on April 12, 2011 in Macon, Missouri.
Sewer Rehabilitation in Small Missouri Communities
Recent NPDES permits for wastewater treatment plants have become more stringent in respect to effluent limits and sewer system maintenance requirements. In an effort to comply with current regulations, many small communities struggle to find solutions that are both effective and affordable to the user. Reducing wastewater flows by rehabilitating the sewer system is one of the tools available to permit holders. This presentation looks at success and lessons learned from recent projects in several small Missouri communities, including flow reduction achieved affordability and funding, permitting concerns, and disruption to the community.
This presentation was given on March 29, 2011 at the MEA & MoAWWA Joint Conference at Osage Beach, Missouri. It was presented by Elke Boyd, P.E.
Antidegradation - What it means to you
This recent regulation took effect August 1, 2008 and affects everyone with a new or expanded wastewater discharge.
This updated presentation was given at the Missouri Water Environment Association 14th Annual Fall Technical Conference on November 4, 2010. It was presented by Elke Boyd, P.E.
Wastewater Lagoon Upgrades for Advanced Treatment
Until recently, 3-cell flow through lagoons has been considered the ideal solution for small communities in need of a low-cost and effective method of wastewater treatment with minimal operational complexity. Recent regulatory changes are posing numerous challenges to the limits of treatment in these systems. Many lagoons will either have to be upgraded, converted or replaced. Navigating the multitude of options on the marked today can be challenging and confusing. This presentation takes a look at the options presented to one Missouri community, with special consideration given to the operational complexity, permitting requirements and expected user charges.
This updated presentation was given on May 14, 2009 at the Missouri Water Environment Association Small Flows Technical Conference. It was presented by Elke Boyd, P.E.
