Carroll County Reopens Two Local Bridges
The Carroll County Commission was pleased to host the final inspection of two local bridges on September 3, recognizing their completion. Bridge number 00600021 over Bunch Hollow Creek and bridge number 16100011 over a tributary to Turkey Creek have been reopened following construction. The regional engineering firm of Shafer, Kline & Warren, Inc. (SKW) provided design, program administration and construction observation for the bridges. Design of the bridges was 80% funded by the MoDOT Bridge Off-System Program (BRO) Bridge Program which provides funding to counties for replacement of deficient bridges.
Presiding Commissioner Nelson Heil said, “Carroll County has the second largest number of county bridges in the State. Anytime we can use the BRO Program it is a savings to the people of Carroll County.” Heil explained that with over 100 county bridges left to update that are functionally obsolete “we simply do not have the money to improve them all.”
Though the bridge completions were delayed nearly six months following a particularly wet construction season, Commissioner Heil said the County was well-pleased with the projects. “We are proud to have these bridges completed, these have been very successful projects,” said Heil.
Bridge 00600011 is a single-span, steel girder bridge of 80 feet in length with a total project cost of $254,660. Bridge 00600021 is a three-span, precast channel beam bridge of 96 feet in length with a cost of $296,098.
Commissioners from Carroll County, as well as staff from MoDOT, SKW, and general contractor for both projects, Bross Construction, attended the final inspection.
