Macon Comprehensive Plan Update
In May 2006 the Macon City Council approved a resolution indicating their support for “The City of Maples: Planting the Seed for the Future:” a Comprehensive Plan for the City of Macon. The development of the Comprehensive Plan began in summer 2005 and entailed a significant amount of public input. SKW conducted a series of public meetings focusing on previously identified topics of importance, including land use, annexation, downtown revitalization, infrastructure and economic development. The meetings entailed productive discussions with participants working together to establish priorities and plans of action. A group of dedicated citizens began to work towards the goals for downtown Macon even before the Plan was officially adopted. Several City officials noted that without the development of the Comprehensive Plan they would not have known what a high priority downtown is for their citizens.
