Kansas City, MO SKW provided mechanical, plumbing and fire protection services for the Jack Stack Barbecue restaurant in Kansas City, MO, in the historically significant Freight House.
The building was restored to limit waste reduction and many of the bricks were recovered and used as pavers around the building. The project integrated the building water source heat pump system with additional rooftop equipment to provide comfort and adequate kitchen makeup air. Due to the several exhaust hoods, smoker ovens and the oversized fireplace, the air balance was critical to the operation of the facility. The lighting system was designed with energy conservation as a primary goal. To reduce the smoke stack emissions of the smoker chimney, a gas-fired after burner was employed. Jack Stack serves more than 2,000 meals daily.
