GIS Needs Assessment Plan
North Kansas City, MO

SKW was selected to develop a GIS Needs Assessment and Implementation Plan to assist the City of North Kansas City, MO, in the collection, management and distribution of their electronic data.  In order to identify the critical pieces of information in existence throughout the various City departments, SKW initiated a series of electronic surveys and personal interviews.  These surveys identified the availability of both graphical and non-graphical data and how those data sets might be used by various City departments, including members of the Police, Emergency Response and Public Works staffs.

Based upon the user responses to the surveys and interviews, SKW developed a Needs Assessment Plan.  The plan detailed internal and external data sources from which the City could obtain and input into their GIS including such data layers as: parcel, aerial photography, utility infrastructure and property ownership.  SKW presented the plan to the City staff with descriptions of the existing information, notations of the format of that data, and recommendations for implementation options.
