Western Auto Building
Condominium Survey
Kansas City, MO

Originally built in 1915 as the regional headquarters for the Coca-Cola Company and taken over by Western Auto in 1951, the Western Auto Building was awarded historic landmark status in 1988.  The distinctive 12-story curved tower building was designed by Arthur Tufts and features brick and terra cotta facade and Chicago-period classic architectural features.

MCZ / Centrum Western developed the building into 93 condominium units ranging in price from $110,000 - $311,900.  Two adjacent 6-story buildings were also renovated to house an additional 69 units.  Space on the ground floor of each building was set aside for commercial and retail sites.  The buildings feature a rooftop terrace and a fitness center and the renovation included extensive landscaping throughout.

Working directly with the developer, MCZ/Centrum Western, and in conjunction with Polsinelli Shalton Welte Suelthaus, the law firm representing them, SKW provided the survey services necessary to convert the existing warehouse buildings into owner occupied condominium units.  SKW represented the developer throughout various City planning commission meetings, plat review committee meetings and City Council meetings.  The project took place in two phases, and SKW also provided construction staking for the parking and storm sewer improvements associated with the first phase.
