Comprehensive Plan Update
Macon, MO

SKW provided planning services to the City of Macon, MO, to address the City's future growth requirements and challenges.  In May 2006 the Macon City Council approved a resolution indicating their support for “The City of Maples: Planting the Seed for the Future,” a Comprehensive Plan for the City of Macon, which was adopted by the Planning Commission on May 11, 2006.

The process of developing the Comprehensive Plan began in summer 2005 and entailed a significant amount of public input.  SKW conducted a series of public meetings with more than 80 people participating, including elected and appointed officials, city staff, citizens and other interested parties.  Each meeting focused on a previously identified topic of importance including land use, annexation, downtown revitalization, infrastructure and economic development.  The meetings also addressed developing goals for each topic and established action steps to achieve those goals.  A group of dedicated citizens began to work towards the goals for downtown Macon even before the Plan was officially adopted.
