Initially, SKW completed the facilities plan for improvements needed to handle wastewater in the Sunrise Estates area east of Columbia, MO.  The rural subdivision utilized two small lagoons and an activated sludge treatment plant.  The facilities had been constructed 20 to 30 years earlier by the subdivision developer.  The facilities were overloaded, especially in wet weather.  

SKW completed two periods of simultaneous flow monitoring during wet periods to quantify wet weather flows.  Options evaluated included natural treatment systems, activated sludge treatment, and pumping to the City of Columbia collection system.  SKW was also selected to perform the SSES study and follow up with Phase I sewer rehabilitation design.
