Burlington, KS SKW provided a preliminary engineering report of the Burlington, KS, water treatment plant to determine various alternatives for expansion and compliance with current and future regulations including the Enhanced Surface Water Treatment Rule and Phase I and Phase II of Disinfection By-Product Rule. Alternatives evaluated included modifying the existing conventional water treatment plant and constructing a new one at various sites using various treatment technologies. Special consideration was given to generation and disposal of residuals. Construction and operational costs were estimated and a resulting water rate increase was forecast. The City decided to construct a new treatment plant on adjacent land to utilize the existing raw water intake. SKW was retained to provide design, bid and construction phase services. The project was funded in part through State Revolving Funds. |
