De Soto, KS The City of De Soto, KS, retained SKW to provide engineering services to address their needs for updated wastewater collection and treatment. The City is a rapidly growing community, and as a result, the existing treatment plant was at capacity and no longer able to reliably meet discharge limits. SKW prepared a Wastewater Master Plan to address immediate and future wastewater collection and treatment. SKW recommended the construction of a new treatment plant on the northwest side of town and a new Main Pump Station to convey existing flows to the new plant. The new treatment plant location is situated to easily serve the projected areas of growth in De Soto. SKW recommended the use of the AeroMod SEQUOX treatment process, which is capable of nitrogen and phosphorous removal. SKW completed the design and provided construction administration and inspection services. The new treatment plant uses the AeroMod SEQUOX BNR process. This is an activated sludge process with biological nitrogen and phosphorous removal. The common wall constructed tanks help reduce concrete construction costs and allow for a smaller treatment system footprint. Two treatment trains were provided, with room for four more trains in the future. The project was bid and constructed within budget in a period of 14 months. Other Systems Provided Include:
