Matt Ross Community Center Civil Design

Overland Park, KS

The City of Overland Park devised the Destination Downtown Overland Park Master Plan to revitalize the City's downtown district.  A major component of the plan was the construction of the $16 million Matt Ross Community Center on the southern edge of the downtown district.  As a member of the design team, SKW was responsible for providing input on the schematic layout and site plan and for preparing the site design construction documents.  SKW also prepared a stormwater management study and design which involved an underground detention and water quality/infiltration system and sanitary sewer relocation plans.

The two-story, 79,600 s.f. facility features community civic spaces; a recreation area featuring a two-court gymnasium; a natatorium with a warm water leisure pool and lap pool; fitness area; and administrative spaces to house several City programs.  The 5.6 acre site was designed to accommodate 250 parking spaces.

The structure was designed and constructed in "the spirit of LEED" with an emphasis on sustainable site development, water savings, energy efficiency, materials selection and indoor environmental quality.

Note: Formal application for LEED certification was not utilized in this project.
