Independence, MO

SKW worked with the City of Independence, MO, to reconstruct 3,243' of Hidden Valley Road between M291 and R.D. Mize.  The existing 24' two-lane roadway was too narrow, frequently carrying traffic well above the posted speed limit.  The roadway was improved to city standards for minor arterial classification, with curb and gutter, sidewalks, drive approaches, storm sewer, sanitary sewer and utility adjustments, and construction area restoration.  SKW's scope of services included: surveys, traffic/utility studies, storm sewer evaluation, street and storm design, design of a retaining wall, easements, utility coordination, and neighborhood planning meetings.  The City issued an addendum to assign STP funding to the project.

In May 2007, this project received an APWA Kansas City Metro Chapter 2007 Project of the Year Award.
